Although the editorial that this shot comes from, entitled ‘Fin D’Été’ appeared in Vogue Paris’ October 2004 issue, the images from the story are more suited to the summer months of June through to the middle or end of September. Mikael Jansson shoots two goddesses, Julia Stegner and Daria Werbowy here. I have to say that Julia steals the shot here; wow what a sumptuous beauty she is!

Rising from the sea like a Bond girl, Daria Werbowy brings confidence and sex appeal to scuba gear in this summery editorial, appropriately titled ‘Sexy Plongeant’, photographed by Mikael Jansson and taken from Vogue Paris’ May 2007 issue. It was Karl’s last editiorial contribution for the magazine.

Another cinematic shot here, this time shot by David Sims and starring Malgosia Bela in a Louise Brooks-like wig, taken from an editorial entitled ‘Star System’, taken from Vogue Paris’ March 2006 issue (whose content was shot entirely by Sims). I like the contrast between Malgosia’s concealed body language and the open air and space in the backdrop of the black and white image.

Carmen Kass plays a bikini-clad rich girl with atanning bed addiction in this languid shot from Vogue Paris’ April 2005 editorial ‘Plaisir Solitaire’, shot by Mikael Jansson (as if you couldn’t tell!) Well that’s one possible interpretation of the character that she plays in this image at least.

I’m not sure that Natalia Vodianova is up to playing much actual tennis in this steamy shot by Mikael Jansson and taken from Vogue Paris’ February 2005 issue, but she sure manages to engage and get a bit of “net play” in judging by this image.

Here’s a shot from another classic editorial by Mikael and Karl. Carmen Kass lounges in a tanning salon, nude and decked out in expensive jewellery. Is this scenario in this shot, and in the rest of the story realistic? No. Is it fantastic? Of course it is!

Here’s some more sexy imagery from Vogue Paris, this time featuring the underrated Cameron Russell, who looks amazing in a body-fitting Versace dress. Love this old David Sims editorial which was only styled in part by Karl, three other big stylists also contributed to the story.

Sometimes simple pictures can do so much more for you than complicated and over conceptualised ones. That’s the case with this shot of Iselin Steiro, which I find to be honestly sexy and alluring. I see her as a girl taking an afternoon breather in her Mediterranean apartment during the summer in this shot.

This close-up of Daria, all shaded up with hair blowing across her face epitomises the bold sex appeal of the mid 2000s. It looks like it could be a still from a music video from the same year in which it was published, 2005. The editorial’s title is ‘Daria En Route Pour La Gloire’. To which I reply, ‘oui, bien sur’.

With her disheveled hair and laid-back stance, Natalia Vodianova looks like Roberto Cavalli’s ideal muse, a bohemian rock princess. David Sims allows for Natalia and Karl’s styling to take centre stage here.
