Stella Tennant manages to incorporate what could be her daily exercise into this austere image by Steven Meisel. How convenient. I’m sure that most models couldn’t afford to multi-task like this in front of Meisel’s lens!

Another great oldie (if we can really call something from 2007 an oldie) from Steven and Karl. I love the ease exhibited by both Denisa Dvorakova and Maryna Linchuk in this photograph of them as ‘Blade Runner’ beauties atop a huge lorry trailer. This image was published in the ‘Serviced’ editorial, published in Vogue Italia’s August 2007 issue.

One of Steven Meisel’s better editorials from 2012, ‘Fascino Senza Età’ is beautifully lit, photographed and styled. In this shot of Isabella Rossellini, the way that the sunlight pours over the Italian icon dressed in menswear and adds a sense of optimism into an otherwise dimly lit and dark interior landscape.

Raquel Zimmermann channels a glamorous Studio 54 devotee brilliantly in this cheeky photograph by Steven Meisel, taken from her solo editorial for Vogue Italia’s August 2011 issue.

This picture of Kristen McMenamy has that signature ‘organized chaos’ kind of atmosphere to it that you see in a lot of Steven Meisel images. Although I would actually attribute that quality to the genius set designer Mary Howard, who manages to conjure up an environment full of decayed luxury using only a picture frame, branch, taxidermy deer head and scattered berries. Naturally Karl’s styling of this feathery Givenchy piece also adds to that image that Meisel and Howard envisioned.

Craig McDean has a way of making the most plain gestures look intriguing. In this photograph of a Lanvin clad Amber Valletta, the American supermodel plays with a chair, which adds a child like air to the photograph.

An offbeat, intriguing photograph of Sunniva Stordahl surrounded by several male models here, taken from Karl’s first collaboration with Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia’s November 1997 issue. The redhead is fanned down by one of her friends, whilst another plays with a toaster to the left of her. Interesting and nondescript yet kind of brilliant at the same time.

Given that Gemma Ward was often referred to as a ‘doll’ in her modelling heyday, it’s only appropriate that Craig and Karl should have strung her up like a puppet for this charming image from their editorial, ‘The Lines And Shapes’, published in Vogue Italia’s February 2005 issue.

I can’t imagine Kristen McMenamy standing like this in the doorway of New York’s ‘Hotel Chelsea’, topless in real life. For one of Meisel’s Vogue Italia editorials though? No question about it.

Two images of a strung-out Meghan Collison capture the atmosphere of what I can only assume to be a late 70s New Wave underground rave. Being that he is a man of many influences and ideas though, Mr. Meisel might have been thinking along different lines when he shot this image.
