All of the images in Vogue Italia’s January 2011 editorial ‘The Power of Glamour’ are pretty much perfect, but I have to say that this image always stands out to me. Fei Fei Sun usually looks meek and a little passive in editorial images (as much as I love her), but she gives off a bit of arrogance and cockiness in this shot and the result is golden; a great homage to the days of Paris ateliers in the 1970s.

I never complain about how many 1980s influences we see in Mr. Templer’s work, mainly because he executes the looks so well; you feel like you are actually looking at a snapshot from the time. That’s the case with this moody shot of a post-punk, post-disco styled Nimue Smit. A different look for the usually mousy model.

A bit of ‘heat’ for May (although the weather is pretty cold here); this shot of Daria Werbowy shot by Steven Klein (and the rest of said editorial) riffs off of an old Meisel/Linda Evangelista Vogue Italia story, as many people have noted. I still like the images from this version, even if the inspiration behind them is not all that original.

A modest look for the height of the recession era circa 2009, this shot of Darya Kurovska is taken from the appropriately titled ‘Fashion Bailout’ editorial, from Vogue Italia’s April 2009 issue. Whenever I see her nowadays all I can think of is the time when she got shouted at by that model agent on the Channel 4 show, ‘The Modelling Agency’ LOL.

A bit of T and a lot of A for your day, in this shot of Kate Moss; naked as per usual and shot by Mert & Marcus as per usual, LOL.

Although the editorial that this shot comes from, entitled ‘Fin D’Été’ appeared in Vogue Paris’ October 2004 issue, the images from the story are more suited to the summer months of June through to the middle or end of September. Mikael Jansson shoots two goddesses, Julia Stegner and Daria Werbowy here. I have to say that Julia steals the shot here; wow what a sumptuous beauty she is!

Moving on to more impressive stuff now. I really like this shot of Emily Sandberg, shot by Steven Klein. Klein’s studio imagery can be really impressive; particularly when the hair, make-up and lighting is on point like it is here. I can’t remember who designed the look she is wearing (perhaps Valentino Haute Couture?), but the image is taken from an editorial called ‘X-Couture’, taken from Vogue Italia’s September 1999 Couture Supplement.

Once again, here’s another image from an editorial accompanying an interview with Balenciaga’s Nicholas Ghesquière (Interview Magazine’s February 2010 issue for reference) that I’m not all that keen on, but has an intriguing (if slightly mashed up) composition. Lindsey Wixson, Nanou Vandecruys, Hanne Gabby Odiele and Elsa Sylvan look like they are part of a girl gang. Perhaps called ‘Balenciaga Booty’ (hmmm probably not)? You decide.

I have to be honest and say that I’m not a huge fan of this Fabien Baron shot editorial that accompanies Sarah Burton’s interview in Interview Magazine’s March 2012 issue, between the unneccesary use of guns, dark lighting and an unidentifiable model it’s all a bit empty. However this shot is probably the best of the bunch because it brings to mind a ‘villainess’ from a sci-fi film, which is more than the other shots do.

This colourful image of Juliane Grüner gives me more of an ‘early 1990s rave girl’ vibe than that of a ‘surfer girl’ (the title of the editorial), but I’ll roll with Craig and Karl’s concept. It’s nearly summer and I just want to look at some vibrant, light imagery for once, either way.
